Zipfusion descriptionA versatile zip self-extractor suitable for distributing files or programsA self-extractor is a program that is attached to a compressed archive (typically a zip file) to allow files to be extracted without using an archive reader such as Winzip™. Self-extractors are often used to distribute software. In this case, files are typically extracted into a temporary directory before a command is issued to initiate program installation. When installation is complete (or when the computer is restarted) the temporary directory should be deleted.
Self-extractor programs are typically called SFXs. They may also be called stub programs since they do not usually do anything useful unless attached to a zip file.
Zipfusion is a program that allows you to create zip format files.
Here are some key features of "Zipfusion":
· Zipfusion can be used with any zip tools that create type 0/8/9 (stored/deflate/deflate64) format zip files. · Appearance and behaviour are controlled using a text file that is embedded in the zip archive (but not extracted).· An editor/tester/builder is included to facilitate the development process. · When extraction is complete Zipfusion can launch any program or document of your choice. · When creating setup programs, files can be extracted into a temporary directory - that directory can then be automatically destroyed when the program finishes or when Windows is restarted. · Zipfusion includes three stub programs.· The Microlight stub is ~14KB. The File Extractor and Installer stub programs are ~48KB.· The File Extractor and Installer stub programs are highly versatile and support many behavioural and visual options.· See Snapshots.· These stub programs also supports language files. Any number can be embedded - the actual one used can be selected automatically according to the user's locale. Button sizes and dialog layout, etc. are automatically adjusted. · The Microlight stub program, whilst much smaller, still has many features including allowing button captions and text labels to be adjusted. It also supports the features for setup programs discussed above. · All stub programs permit an icon to be installed.· All icon types and sizes are supported.
Limitations:
· nag screen
NoteRegistration is not required unless Zipfusion is to be used for commercial purposes. However, if you invite payment even on a voluntary basis, this is considered commercial.
What's New in This Release:
· Added a Graphical User Interface to the configuration editor.· Primary configuration values can be set by dialog but less frequently used values must be set using the text editor. · Added support for Windows Vista User Account Control (UAC).· This required some structual changes internally so minor changes in behaviour may be observed on other platforms. · Added UAC instruction to display a UAC prompt at startup, before extraction or before executing a command. · Added Launch Instruction to open the application with standard privileges when installation is complete.· The Launch command is performed when the Execute command has completed (if its exitcode is zero). · The default backfill color is now black (rather than navy) under Vista.· The default banner color is now black (rather than white) under Vista. · If no icon is defined, a windows default is used in the titlebar but is not displayed in the banner area. · Added BannerShowIcon instruction to determine if the icon is displayed in the banner area. · The stub programs are now stored with other application data. Backup stubs are stored in the Zipfusion program directory. If a stub is missing from the application data or is older than its backup, the backup is copied on demand.· Under XP, Zipfusion application data is typically stored in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Zipfusion· Under Vista, Zipfusion application data is typically stored in C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Roaming\Zipfusion ...
